Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *drěmati, through Old Church Slavonic дрѣмати (drěmati, to drowse, doze). Cognates include Czech dřímat, Polish drzemać, Russian дрема́ть (dremátʹ), Serbo-Croatian drijemati, Slovene dremati and more distantly Latin dormiō and Sanskrit द्रायते (drāyate).
