[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic Павелъ (Pavelŭ), Паулъ (Paulŭ), borrowed from Old Church Slavonic Павьлъ (Pavĭlŭ), Паоулъ (Paulŭ), from Byzantine Greek, from Ancient Greek Παῦλος (Paûlos), from Latin Paulus.[1][2] Compare Russian Па́вел (Pável).
