Etymology

Learned borrowing from French psychose from Ancient Greek ψυχή f (psukhḗ, soul), ψυχ- of ψυχο- (psukho-) + -ose after névrose. Different sense for the Hellenistic ψύχωσις f (psúkhōsis, giving life, animating).[1]
