[edit]Inherited through Mediaeval Greek from Hellenistic Koine Greek ψαλμῳδία (psalmōidía) with vowel change [o] > [u] under the influence of [m] and synizesis at the ending to avoid hiatus.[1] Compare to the more formal synonym ψαλμωδία f (psalmodía).
