[edit]From Ancient Greek φορά (phorá), with raising of the stress, possibly in allusion to φέρω (phérō, “to bring”).

[edit]Either from Latin fora (“markets, forums”), plural of forum or from old Italian adverb fora or fuora, Venetan fora (“outside”).[1][2]
