From Ottoman Turkish فستق (fıstık) (modern Turkish fıstık), from Persian فستق (fostoq, fostaq), from Arabic فِسْتَق (fistaq), of Iranian origin (compare Middle Persian pstk' (pistag)). Cognate with English pistachio.
