Inherited from Koine Greek σύγγαμβρος (súngambros), from συγ- (sug-) +‎ γαμβρός (gambrós), with alteration of -μβρ- to -μπρ- like γαμβρός (gamvrós)γαμπρός (gamprós).[1]
