Etymology

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ρόιδι (róidi), with assimilation of the όι > ό, from Hellenistic Koine Greek ῥοΐδιον (rhoḯdion), diminutive of Ancient Greek ῥοιά (rhoiá), variant of ῥόα (rhóa, pomegranate).[1]
