[edit]Inherited from Koine Greek *πρωτομηνία (*prōtomēnía) (compare Doric Greek πρατομηνία (pratomēnía)), modelled after Ancient Greek νουμηνία (noumēnía, “new moon”).[1] By surface analysis, πρωτο- (proto-) + μήν(ας) (mín(as)) + -ιά (-iá).
