[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *n̥-h₁d-tis (literally “having no eating”). Cognate with Old Armenian նօթի (nōtʻi, “hungry”). By surface analysis, νη- (nē-) + ἔδω (édō) + -τις (-tis).
