[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *mneh₂- (“to remind”), which is generally thought to be a root extension of *men- (“to remember, mind”). Compare μαίνομαι (maínomai), μιμνήσκω (mimnḗskō),[1] as well as Sanskrit मन्यते (mányate), Sanskrit म्ना (mnā), whence Sanskrit मनति (manati, “remember, repeat in the mind”), Old Church Slavonic мьнѣти (mĭněti) and Lithuanian miniu.
