[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *mányatay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mányatay, from Proto-Indo-European *mn̥yo-, from *men- (“to think”). Cognate with Old Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬙𐬉 (maniietē), Ancient Greek μαίνομαι (maínomai), Old Church Slavonic мьнѣти (mĭněti).
