Learnedly, from Ancient Greek εὔχομαι (pray, wish),[1] from Proto-Hellenic *eukʰomai, thematized from Proto-Indo-European *h₁é-h₁ugʰ-tor, reduplicated present from *h₁wegʷʰ- (to promise, to praise).
