Inherited from Byzantine Greek γυρίζω (gurízō), from Ancient Greek γῦρ(ος) (gûr(os), ring, circle) + -ίζω (-ízo).[1] Compare to the variant γυρνάω/γυρνώ (gyrnáo/gyrnó).
