Etymology

βογκ(ώ) (vogk(ó)) + -άω (-áo). Simplification of spelling of the mediaeval Byzantine Greek γογγῶ (gongô) falsely associated to βοΐζω (boḯzō, make noise, buzz). From Hellenistic Koine Greek γογγύζω (gongúzō).[1]
