Etymology

From the mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἀποκόβω (apokóbō), from Ancient Greek ἀποκόπτω (apokóptō) with metaplasm in the pattern of κόπτω (kóptō) > κόβω (kóvo, cut). Analysable as απο- (from) +‎ κόβω (cut).[1]
