[edit]Learnedly, from the Hellenistic Koine Greek ἀνταμοιβή (antamoibḗ, “exchange”), from the mediopassive verb of Ancient Greek ἀνταμείβομαι (antameíbomai, “give back in exchange”).[1] The stem αμοιβ- by vowel gradation. Morphologically, from αντ- (αντι-) (“counter”) + αμοιβή (“fee”).
