Etymology

From άλλαντα (állanta) +‎ -ικός (-ikós), in which άλλαντα (állanta) is inherited from Ancient Greek ἀλλᾶντες (allântes, sausages), the plural of ἀλλᾶς (allâs), which is perhaps from dialectal *αλλᾱϝεντ- (*allāwent-, sausage seasoned with garlic), from Proto-Italic *allā- (garlic), whence Latin ālium.[1]
