[edit]Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek Τρίπολις (Trípolis), literally, "the three cities", as in Achaea. Official name of the town in Arcadia, Greece since 19th century, replacing the mediaeval Τριπολιτσά (Tripolitsá) of different etymon.
