đả
Appearance
Muong
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Vietnamese đá. The expected form if this was a cognate would be *tả, cf. tả (“to kick”).
The chief word for "stone, rock" in most Muong lects is a reflex of Proto-Vietic *b-ruːʔ (“mountain, forest > stone”) (> Vietnamese rú). In Mường Bi, the form is khũ.
