đả

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Muong

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Vietnamese đá. The expected form if this was a cognate would be *tả, cf. tả (to kick).

The chief word for "stone, rock" in most Muong lects is a reflex of Proto-Vietic *b-ruːʔ (mountain, forest > stone) (> Vietnamese ). In Mường Bi, the form is khũ.
