Etymology

From the verb zeng (to resound), by analogy with words ending in -ora, interpreted as a suffix. An example of such a word is tambora, an obsolete form of tambura (tamboura). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries. First attested in 1787.[1]
