[edit]From Proto-Iranian *ǰaθráH, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰen-. Cognate with Central Kurdish ژەھر (jehir), Lurish ژٱر (žar) and Old Armenian ժահր (žahr), an Iranian borrowing.
