[edit]From Middle Dutch vraet, from Old Dutch [Term?], from Proto-West Germanic [Term?], from Proto-Germanic *fraētaz, deverbal from *fraetaną, whence vreten. This word is thus effectively a verbal noun to vreten. Cognate with German Fraß.
