From Proto-Nuristani (the irregular initial vowel may have come from contamination with the oblique form *un- < *wan-), probably from earlier *aȷ́nám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *aȷ́ʰám, from Proto-Indo-European *éǵh₂.
