From Middle Welsh tyghet, from Proto-Brythonic *tonked, from Proto-Celtic *tonketos (compare Old Irish toceth, tocad), from Proto-Indo-European *tenk- (be suitable); compare Gothic 𐌸𐌴𐌹𐌷𐌰𐌽 (þeihan, to prosper).
