[edit]A wanderword. Via Medieval Latin siruppus, syrupus, from Arabic شَرَاب (šarāb, “a drink, beverage, wine, coffee, syrup”), from شَرِبَ (šariba, “to drink”). Compare German Sirup, French sirop, Italian sciroppo.[1]
