[edit]Inherited from Old Polish strzyc, from Proto-Slavic *striťi (stem *strig-), from Proto-Indo-European *streyg- (“to stroke, rub, shear”). Doublet of strajkować (“to strike”) and strychować (“to graze, to level, to line, to separate, to shell”).
