[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably ris- + -u, from risahtaa, thus onomatopoeic of the snapping sound made by dry twigs. Germanic origin has been proposed (compare Icelandic hrís (“brushwood”) and Swedish ris (“twigs in a heap”)), but considered unlikely for phonetic reasons.[1][2]
