- The intransitive Old Danish rise, Old Norse rísa, from Proto-Germanic *rīsaną (“to rise”), related to English rise.
- The transitive Old Danish resæ, Old Norse reisa (“raise”), from Proto-Germanic *raizijaną (“to raise”), related to English rear (raise is borrowed from Old Norse).
- A verb borrowed from Middle Low German, German reisen, from Old Saxon *rēsōn, from Proto-West Germanic *raisōn (“to set out, depart”), derived from the noun Proto-West Germanic *raisu, see above.
