Etymology

reden (to talk, verb) +‎ -lich (-like, adjectival suffix), literally talkish; tending to talk. The verb reden can also mean that one is speaking of or revealing a truth to (someone/something), so while it literally means 'to talk', it implies in some cases that one will speak with forthcomingness or truth on a subject and not conceal it.
