[edit]From Latin quīnquāgēnārius (“containing 50”), either directly or via French quinquagénaire, from Latin quīnquāgēnus (“50 each”) + -ārius (“-ary”), from quīnquāgintā (“five tens, fifty”). Cognate with quinquagenarian and quingenary.
