Possibly from vít (to wind, roll), meaning “something produced by stirring, mixing of a boiled fruit juice”.[1] An alternate etymology derives the word ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *peu- (to cleanse, purify), in the sense “purified concoction”.[2]
