Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish پوت قیرمق (pot ḳırmaḳ, to fold in plaits, to blurt out an unwelcome and untimely speech),[1][2] equivalent to compound of pot (a wrinkle or crease due to faulty stitching; a blunder) +‎ kırmak (to break, to fold).
