[edit]From Medieval Latin apodissa (“receipt for money”), from a Byzantine Greek *ἀπόδειξα (*apódeixa), from Ancient Greek ἀπόδειξις (apódeixis, “proof”). Doublet of the learned borrowing apodissi.
