[edit]From an Old Galician-Portuguese *porcilga, related to porco (“pig”), possibly through a Vulgar Latin *porcicula (with metathesis and later contraction), itself possibly from a crossing of Late Latin porcīle, from Latin porcus, and *cōrtīcula, diminutive of Latin cōrtem (“farmyard or enclosure”), or from a root *porcīlica, from porcīle.
