Etymology

[edit]

perustuslaki +‎ oikeus

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈperustusˌlɑkiˌoi̯keus/, [ˈpe̞rus̠tus̠ˌlɑ̝k̟iˌo̞i̯k̟e̞us̠]
  • Rhymes: -oikeus
  • Hyphenation(key): pe‧rustus‧laki‧oike‧us

Noun

[edit]

perustuslakioikeus

  1. (law) constitutional court

Usage notes

[edit]
  • This term is used of foreign (non-Finnish) constitutional courts. It cannot refer to the Finnish constitutional court because there is none. Instead, there is the perustuslakivaliokunta (Constitutional Law Committee) of the eduskunta (parliament) which screens the proposed legislation and decides whether it conforms with the constitution.
