Serbo-Croatian

[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *paziti (“to heed”). Cognate with Bulgarian пазя (pazja, “to safeguard”), Slovene paziti (“protect”), Ukrainian пазити (pazyty, “to look after”). Non-Slavic cognates include Old Norse spakr (“wise”), speki (“wisdom”), spekja (“to soothe”). Compare Latin speciō (“to watch”).
