From Ancient Greek πάροδος (párodos, “entrance”), from παρα- (para-) +‎ ὁδός (hodós, “path, road”).

parodos (plural parodoi)

1. A side entrance to an Ancient Greek theater, affording access to the stage or orchestra.
2. The ode sung by the chorus as it enters the orchestra, typically following the play's prologue.
