[edit]From Ottoman Turkish اوینتی (oyuntu, “an excavation, the material scooped out”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish اویمق (oymaḳ, “to excavate, to scoop out, to carve, to engrave”), from Proto-Turkic *oy- (“to dig, to pick”),[2][3] morphologically oy- + -un + -tu.
