[edit]From the Late Latin octateuchus, from the Byzantine Greek ὀκτάτευχος [βίβλος] (oktáteukhos [bíblos], “[a volume] containing [the first] eight books [of the Old Testament]”), from the Ancient Greek ὀκτα- (okta-, “eight”, combining variant of ὀκτώ) + τεῦχος (teûkhos, “book”).
