Seems related to npauj npaim (“butterfly”); however, the latter has an alternative form of npuj npaim, which is listed as the dictionary form in the literature, muddying the details. Bears some resemblance to "flat"-type words like nplooj (“leaf”), Middle Chinese 薄 (MC bak, “thin, flimsy”), and especially 平 (MC bjien|bjaeng, “level, flat”).” |
