[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *nizati, from *nьziti + *-ati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁neǵʰ- (“to pierce”). Cognate to Russian низа́ть (nizátʹ), Serbo-Croatian ни́зати and Slovene nízati.
