[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish نسبت (nisbet, nispet, “a relationship, relation, ratio, proportion, spite, spiteful or defiant act”),[1] from Arabic نِسْبَة (nisba, “relationship, affiliation, connection, relation”), verbal noun of نَسَبَ (nasaba).[2] Cognates with Azerbaijani nisbət, Bashkir нисбәт (nisbət), Uzbek nisbat.
