From nebēda (carefreeness) +‎ -īgs (with nebēda from ne- +‎ bēda (sorrow, misfortune)), or ne- +‎ bēdīgs (sad, unhappy) (with bēdīgs from bēda (sorrow, misfortune) +‎ -īgs).
