Etymology

From an infixed form of a root that gave rise to đắp (to cover).

From Proto-Vietic *s-nəp (blanket, cover). Compare Proto-Pong *nɨp⁷ ("cover"), which is an infixed form of the root presented in Proto-Pong as *sɨp⁷ ("to cover").
