[edit]From Middle French monétaire, from Late Latin monētārius (“pertaining to money”), from Latin monētārius (“of a mint”), from monēta (“mint, coinage”), from the presence—from 273 BC to AD 84—of the chief Roman mint at the Templum Iunonis Monetae (“Temple of Juno Moneta”), q.v. Doublet of minter.
