majokko
Appearance
English
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unadapted borrowing from Japanese 魔女っ子 (majokko), composed of 魔女 (“witch”) + っ子 (“person having a certain quality”, also diminutive suffix).
This term is sometimes also glossed in English as “little witch”, the word 子 (ko) meaning “child” or “small”.
Noun
[edit]majokko (plural majokko)
- (anime, manga) A magical girl.
- A manga or anime focusing on one or more majokko.
- 2006 September 25, GeoffC, “Magical Girl Anime by year”, in rec.arts.anime.misc[2] (Usenet):
- Not exactly a magical-girl-anime list, but with the "shoujo" switch, it includes a great many of them. I've seen many of the majokko, including some rarities like Majokko Chikuru - better known as Magic Girl Tickle / Majokko Tikkuru.
