Etymology

Unadapted borrowing from Japanese 魔女っ子 (majokko), composed of 魔女 (“witch”) +‎ っ子 (“person having a certain quality”, also diminutive suffix).

This term is sometimes also glossed in English as “little witch”, the word 子 (ko) meaning “child” or “small”.

1. (anime, manga) A magical girl.

     The viewer is normally treated to the transformation from the point of view of the majokko herself - the other people around her basically would see a "flash of light" and (poof!) she's changed.

2. A manga or anime focusing on one or more majokko.

     Not exactly a magical-girl-anime list, but with the "shoujo" switch, it includes a great many of them. I've seen many of the majokko, including some rarities like Majokko Chikuru - better known as Magic Girl Tickle / Majokko Tikkuru.
