Noun

[edit]

macuquinho m (plural macuquinhos)

  1. diminutive of macuco
  2. (Brazil) tapaculo (any bird in the genus Eleoscytalopus)
  3. (Brazil) sharp-tailed streamcreeper (Lochmias nematura)
    Synonym: joão-porca

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The gender of this Portuguese zoonym is always masculine: when the gender of the being itself must be specified, use “macuquinho macho” for male, and “macuquinho fêmea” for female. Here, fêmea is treated as an undeclinable noun and don't necessarily need to agree in gender with the referent, but would change to fêmeo if so.
