macuquinho-perereca (Eleoscytalopus indigoticus)

Etymology

[edit]

Literally, treefrog tapaculo. Their vocalization is simmilar to the one of a treefrog.

[edit]

macuquinho-perereca m (plural macuquinho-pererecas)

  1. (Brazil) white-breasted tapaculo (Eleoscytalopus indigoticus)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The gender of this Portuguese zoonym is always masculine: when the gender of the being itself must be specified, use “macuquinho-perereca macho” for male, and “macuquinho-perereca fêmea” for female. Here, fêmea is treated as an undeclinable noun and don't necessarily need to agree in gender with the referent, but would change to fêmeo if so.
