[edit]From Ottoman Turkish مشكلات (müşkilat), plural of مشكل (müşkil), from Arabic مُشْكِل (muškil), from أَشْكَلَ (ʔaškala, “to be ambiguous, difficult”). By surface analysis, müşkül + -at.
